Timeless Sibling & Classic Newborn Photography in Portland (PDX) Studio

Bringing home a new baby is a monumental moment for a family, and capturing the bond between the new arrival and their older siblings is truly magical. A "classic" newborn session at our Portland (PDX) studio prioritizes these timeless family connections, ensuring your oldest children feel just as important during this milestone.

The Beauty of Sibling Newborn Photos

I love having siblings in the studio. The dynamic between the older children and their brand-new baby brother or sister is one of the most heartwarming moments we capture. These kids were super loving and caring for their brand new baby sister, and their natural tenderness shines through in every frame.

  • Safety and Comfort: Sibling photos are always done first and quickly! We keep the safety of the newborn as the highest priority while ensuring the older children feel engaged and happy.

  • A Family Affair: Including siblings creates a richer family narrative. These are the images that show the immediate, profound connection that started on day one.

  • The Power of Connection: We love capturing the gentle hand placed on the head, the soft kiss, or the simple act of sitting together. These moments of quiet affection are what end up hanging on the wall.

Recreating Precious Memories

One of the most rewarding aspects of working with repeat clients is recreating a little bit of history. Momma also wanted to recreate some of their older newborn session poses so I made sure there were some blasts from the past!

It’s an incredible full-circle moment to photograph a growing family and replicate a pose from an older sibling’s newborn session. It allows you to create a beautiful series of artwork that shows the growth of your family over the years. This commitment to consistency and honoring past memories is what makes a classic studio session so meaningful. It actually ended up being one of my favorite classic group shots that I ended up hanging up a large version on the walls.

Tips for a Successful Sibling Newborn Session

To ensure a smooth, stress-free experience when bringing older children to the studio, here are a few key tips:

  1. Time it Right: We typically do sibling and parent shots at the very beginning of the session. We recommend having another trusted adult (like a grandparent or friend) take the older children home or to a nearby park right after their photos are finished. This allows the rest of the session to focus solely on the sleepy baby.

  2. Prep Them: Talk to your older child about the session beforehand. Tell them they are coming to take pictures with their new baby, and emphasize that they need to be gentle and quiet while near the baby.

  3. Offer a Reward: A small, positive incentive—like a trip for ice cream or a new toy after they are done with the photos—can make a huge difference in their cooperation and enthusiasm!
