Growing Together: A Beautiful Sibling & Newborn Studio Session in Portland

It is one of the absolute greatest joys of my work when clients return to my studio to capture their second, third, or even fourth baby! A few years ago, I had the honor of photographing this wonderful family’s first child, Kai, as a newborn. Recently, it was his sweet baby sister's turn to shine in the spotlight. There is nothing more fulfilling as a professional photographer than getting to grow alongside a family and document their milestones as they expand.

Because our session perfectly coincided with the arrival of the beautiful springtime season, we embraced a delightful, seasonal theme. Baby sister was styled as a snuggly little bunny, complete with tiny textured ears that made her sweet, chunky newborn cheeks look even more irresistible.

The Art of the Sibling and Newborn Portrait

The studio session produced absolutely adorable fine-art photographs, with the undisputed highlight being the sibling portraits featuring big brother Kai. Seeing him gently hold and look down at his new baby sister is truly heartwarming—it is honestly the best part of being a family photographer in the greater Portland, Oregon area.

Photographing a newborn alongside an older toddler can feel daunting for parents, but a patient, baby-led approach always yields the most breathtaking results.

How we ensure a relaxed sibling milestone session:

  • Toddler-First Scheduling: We always prioritize the sibling and family portraits at the very beginning of the session while the older child’s energy, comfort, and curiosity are at their peak.

  • Candid Emotional Connection: Rather than forcing rigid, unnatural poses, we guide older siblings into natural interactions—encouraging gentle touches, soft kisses, and quiet moments of discovery.

  • A Calming Studio Environment: My temperature-controlled West Linn portrait studio is a safe, relaxing sanctuary designed to let young children take breaks, play, and feel entirely at ease.

Investing in Fine-Art Print Products for Your Home

These sibling portraits become deeply cherished pieces of family history that everyone will look back on for generations. During their gallery delivery day, the parents were absolutely thrilled with their final collection of images and decided to invest in a premium heirloom album alongside two stunning framed gallery prints.

Tangible, archival-quality products are the ultimate way to preserve these fleeting moments of infancy. A custom linen or leather heirloom album allows a family to relive the complete story of their session, while museum-quality framed prints ensure that these beautiful milestones are displayed as daily art on their walls. Investing in physical print products is a wonderful way to celebrate your family’s newest addition and elevate your home decor simultaneously.
