My Journey From Fashion Photographer to Newborn Photographer in Portland Oregon

Before becoming a newborn photographer in Portland Oregon, I spent over 10 years working in fashion photography in Los Angeles.

My work focused on clothing catalogs, editorial storyboards, and celebrity campaigns. I photographed for a wide range of publications including Rolling Stone, Us Weekly, People, FHM, Seventeen, and various beauty magazines.

It was fast-paced, creative, and driven by constant production and deadlines. I learned how to shape light, direct emotion, and find good angles.

20 years later… that foundation still influences everything I create today.

When Life Forced Everything to Change

At a time when I was ready to grow my family, life took an unexpected turn.

I was diagnosed with cancer during a pregnancy and made the difficult decision to pause everything and begin treatment.

What followed was a year of chemotherapy and radiation—physically demanding and emotionally life-changing in ways that are hard to fully put into words.

It changed how I saw time, presence, and what actually matters in life.

Starting Over in Oregon

After completing treatment, I moved to Oregon to begin again.

It was a reset in every sense—life, health, and career.

During this time, I also focused on rebuilding and working toward conception again while slowly reconnecting with photography in a new way.

But the work I was drawn to had changed.

The Shift Into Maternity And Newborn Photography

I found myself naturally moving away from fast-paced fashion work and toward something quieter and more meaningful.

Families. Connection. New life.

What started as a shift became a full-time focus—newborn photography.

There’s something incredibly grounding about photographing the earliest days of life. The stillness, the softness, the details that disappear so quickly.

Today, I specialize in newborn photography in Portland Oregon, capturing those fleeting first days in a calm, intentional studio environment.

My Work as a Mentor and Educator

Alongside my studio work, I now also serve as a mentor, newborn educator, and photo competition judge.

Through my mentorship, I work with photographers around the world on:

  • newborn safety and posing

  • client experience and workflow

  • building sustainable photography businesses

Judging professional photography has also strengthened my eye for detail, consistency, and storytelling—skills that directly influence every session I photograph.

Serving Families Across Oregon

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving countless families across Oregon through sessions that capture some of the most meaningful milestones of their lives.

These experiences don’t end in the studio—they continue in homes, where the images become part of everyday life. Many families choose to display their artwork throughout their space, turning fleeting moments into something they see and feel every day.

It’s one of the most rewarding parts of my work—knowing these sessions become part of how a family remembers their story.

I look forward to continuing to serve more families and creating these memories for as long as my body allows me to do so.
