Sometimes, the most breathtaking portraits are the simplest ones. As a newborn photographer in Portland, Oregon, I get to meet incredible babies every week, but there are always a few whose features are so magnificent, they become the entire focus of the session. This little guy was one of them—I met him and fell in love!

A Focus on Natural Beauty

From the moment I saw him, I knew his golden hair was going to steal the show. It was so magnificent—those blonde locks were simply glowing! Momma had requested a very minimalist approach to the session, and I was all for it. When a baby has such spectacular natural features, our job is to strip away distractions and let that natural beauty shine.

We designed the sets prior to the scheduled session, opting for soft, neutral backdrops and simple wraps in creams, grays, and soft blues. These subtle colors provided the perfect, calming canvas that allowed his hair and those adorable squishy cheeks to pop. The result is pure, timeless elegance.

Nothing makes me happier than hearing that parents are having a hard time selecting their favorite photos from the proofing gallery. Why? Because it means I’ve done a good job—maybe even too well! When every image focuses on the pure, sweet details of your baby, it becomes impossible to narrow down the choices. Just looking at those perfect little fingers, those blonde locks, and those irresistible squishy cheeks is enough for me to want to keep him (but don't worry, I won't!).
